Greetings! February is a big month for the Greater Spokane Chapter of PRSA!
Our fundraiser – SUDS for Scholarships – on Thursday February 18th is an event you won’t want to miss.
It’s a social time – with a chance to network with colleagues and friends.
It’s a fun time – with tasty microbrews to sample, truly fantastic hors d’oeuvres and nifty auction items to bid on.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Social Media and its measurement – not a fad a fact of life. The apps may change, but social media is here to stay, presenting challenges that PR Professionals can’t ignore.
Perhaps you've been meaning to learn, been meaning to set up a Twitter account, a Facebook fan page, a company page on LinkedIn or a company blog. You've been meaning to do it, but you haven't got the time.
OR….
Maybe you already use social media in your private life, but you're not sure how to apply it to your company's (or client's) business objectives. Should your Twitter account have multiple people contributing to one handle? Is the way you've set up your FaceBook Fan Page really reaching the audience you want it to reach? And how, oh how, are you going to measure it?
Our popular Social Media BootCamp Returns on March 18, 2010 to supply the answers!
Our program will feature hands-on exercises along with hosted conversations about best practices and advice and there will be opportunities at two levels, for those looking for know-how and for those looking for now what?
Our speakers and location will be confirmed soon, so please mark your calendar for March 18, 2010 for this event. Then watch for our announcement coming soon.
In the meantime, hear what PRSA 2010 Chair and CEO Gary McCormick speaks about the challenges social media presents for the Public Relations professional:

PUT IT IN WRITING
Do you have a story idea or some valuable information that our PRSA members would enjoy knowing about? Send your announcement, idea – even a shameless plug – to Monique Dugaw by the 20th of the month for inclusion in the next newsletter – which is published the first week of the following month. Notices and announcements can also be placed on our website or other online sources (Linked IN PRSA Spokane, Twitter/PRSA Spokane, etc.) Just send your information, with all the details to Monique and we will do our best to give the information some free media exposure. |
Central California Chapter looking for “reverse mentoring” data
Betsy Hays, the 2010 President of the Central California Chapter of PRSA is working with a colleague Doug Swanson, APR, from Cal Poly on a study of "reverse mentoring" (i.e. what senior and mid-level practitioners are learning from the younger pros re: social media, etc.) They would like to talk to members of our chapter for their study.
They will soon send me an email explaining the study and inviting our PRSA Chapter members to participate. As with all university research, participation is completely voluntary and results will be reported anonymously. They are very excited about the prospect of working with our chapter on this project, and I encourage you to respond for more information when you receive their initial email.
What's in it for our Chapter:
- We’ll be famous! They'll include the name of our chapter in all published papers and presentations regarding the study.
- We’ll have the knowledge that we've helped advance the profession.
Be watching your email IN box for an email from Betsy Hayes, and respond to let her know if you would like to assist in this project. If you can’t wait to be asked, you can contact Betsy directly:
